Associate Attorney

Attorney Melissa Riska has focused her practice in family law by actively representing families and individuals in divorce, child custody, domestic violence, adoption, modification, relocation, grandparent custody, and related matters. She has developed a compassionate, hands-on, and active approach to all of her cases. Prior to joining Owenby Law, P.A., Melissa has worked for two other family law firms in the Jacksonville area.

Melissa graduated Cum Laude from the University of Florida Levin College of Law and received the Family Law Certificate. This certificate required 15 credit hours in family law specific courses, finishing the Advance Legal Writing requirement in family law, as well as receiving a prestigious GPA

While completing her legal education, Melissa represented impoverished adolescent clients, as an Advanced Certified Legal Intern before the Eighth Judicial Circuit in delinquency and dependency court. In addition, Melissa was an intern at Three Rivers Legal Services, focusing primarily in the Domestic Violence division where she assisted victims of domestic violence in obtaining Injunctions for Protection. Additionally, Melissa interned at Children’s Legal Services, where she obtained extensive experience with the dependency system while pursuing permanency for children in the foster system. She also represented clients in family law matters as a Certified Legal Intern with the Family Law Civil Clinic.
