Background & Experience
Joy’s background is a testament to her drive and dedication. From
teaching high school, being a deputy clerk, and working in marketing while
she earned her Master’s degree to working full-time as an administration
manager for the U.S. Department of Commerce’s Bureau of the Census,
Joy has built her career and our firm’s reputation through unrelenting
dedication.
Prior to founding the firm, Joy served as legal counsel for the state of
Florida's Guardian Ad Litem Program, which supplied her with invaluable
experience in cases involving family law, dependency allegations, and
criminal law. In that capacity, her work focused heavily on children.
Just as parents and adults had someone to protect their rights and interests,
she provided children with a voice to the court in matters involving dependency,
abuse, neglect, and abandonment, and criminal law. She was also a judicial
intern for a family law judge in the 4th Judicial Circuit and a certified
legal intern in the State Attorney’s Office, Special Assault Division.
For the past six years, Owenby Law, P.A. has been recognized by
Law Firm 500,
Inc. 5,000, and
Seminole 100 as one of the fastest-growing firms in the country. To her credit, Joy
has also been individually recognized by a number of local, legal, and
national organizations, including The National Trial Lawyers: Top 100,
the American Jurist Institute, and the American Institute of Family Law
Attorneys, among many others.
