Some attorneys choose this work later in life. For Tawny Rountree, the spark started much earlier. As a teenager, she watched her aunt return to school for a second career in law and work as an assistant prosecutor on a Ted Bundy case. That glimpse into the courtroom stayed with her. In her words, “I always liked law. I knew since I was a teenager that I wanted to be a lawyer.”
Today, after more than three decades in practice and almost 25 years devoted to marital and family law, she uses that lifelong commitment to help families through some of their hardest seasons.
How A Teenager’s Curiosity Turned Into A Lifetime In Family Law
In her bio video, Tawny talks about the moment that first drew her toward the law. Hearing her describe her aunt’s work on that high-profile case, you can hear the same curiosity and seriousness she brings to clients’ cases today. That early exposure did more than capture her attention; it gave her a sense of purpose.
When she began practicing, her mentor handled personal injury and workers’ compensation matters. Tawny started there too, but her work began to shift. “I started getting referrals on my own,” she explains in the video. “Most of those referrals were family law.” Many of those calls came from people who knew her personally, including members of her church.
Over time, those referrals changed the direction of her career. Family law became the majority of her cases and, eventually, the exclusive focus of her practice for almost 25 years.

Approachable, Honest & Steady In Difficult Moments
Clients often describe Tawny as approachable and balanced. She knows that family law matters reach far beyond paperwork and court dates. They affect children, finances, daily routines, and a person’s sense of stability and future.
In every case, she works to combine strong advocacy with genuine compassion and understanding. She listens closely, explains options in clear language, and treats each client with respect. That approach lines up with our firm’s commitment to compassionate advocacy, personalized counsel, and guidance at every stage of the legal process.
Because she has practiced law for more than 33 years, she brings a long view to the decisions clients must make. She does not focus only on what happens in court this month or next month. Instead, she helps clients consider how choices about parenting plans, support, or property division may affect their lives and their children’s lives in the years ahead.
Education & Community Roots That Support Her Work
Before law school, Tawny studied finance and economics, graduating magna cum laude from Kennesaw State University with a B.B.A. in Finance & Economics in 1989. She then earned her J.D. from Georgia State University College of Law in 1992. That foundation helps her understand the financial side of divorce and family law, from support issues to division of assets and debts.
Her legal career began in Georgia, where she completed her education, started practicing law, and began raising her family. In 2006, she returned to her home state of Florida. Since then, she has dedicated her work to helping Florida families through life’s most challenging moments.
She holds bar admissions in both Georgia and Florida and maintains active memberships in:
- The Florida Bar
