The American Jurist Institute is a respected legal organization that aims to support accomplished lawyers by providing them with valuable business and networking opportunities. Members are selected based on legal excellence as determined by nominations and research conducted by the organization’s own independent research team. Many members are initially offered membership because they were first selected to the Top 10 Attorneys list, which is compiled annually to identify 10 outstanding lawyers from each state in 1 of 5 recognized practice areas.
Each candidate must be nominated by an existing American Jurist Institute member, a fellow attorney, client, or by the American Jurist Institute research team. All candidates must be licensed and in good standing with their respective state bar. Only a select few are chosen based on their legal knowledge, skills, and experience. Candidates will also be evaluated based on client reviews, peer reviews, case outcomes, publications, formal training, teaching experience, community involvement, and any additional legal honors they have received. The research team will also consider how long candidates have been practicing law in their area.
This is Attorney Joy Owenby’s second consecutive year as a selected member of the Top 10 Family Law Attorneys.
