Sandy R. Acevedo earned her law degree from Florida Coastal School of Law.
While in school, Sandy worked as a student clinician, through which she
gained valuable experience working with clients, participating in hearings,
and preparing and filing court documents. During this time, she also prepared
petitions for dissolution of marriage and financial affidavits and represented
a client in mediation and trial.
Prior to joining the team at Owenby Law, P.A., Sandy worked as an associate
attorney at another Jacksonville law firm. In this capacity, she handled
a variety of cases involving creditor rights, collections, garnishments,
breach of contract, and small claims rules in a high volume environment.
She also has experience as in house counsel with another local firm, where
she handled landlord-tenant issues, evictions, collections, and contractual
issues. She also drafted payment plan agreements, letters of intent to
lease and purchase, lease agreements, and amendments, and dealt with breach
of contract actions and negotiated settlements.
Community involvement is important to Sandy. She has served as a Special
Olympics volunteer and a volunteer at the Sulzbacher Center, an emergency
shelter for homeless individuals in Jacksonville. In addition, she has
served as a Guardian ad Litem volunteer advocating for the best interests
of abandoned, neglected, and abused children.
Sandy also possesses a Bachelor of Science degree in Political Science
from Florida International University in Miami. She is fluent in Spanish.
